Birthday Breakfast Spaghetti!
This upcoming Saturday, September 26th, will mark my 29th year on this planet.
I’m not one to go all out for my birthday. I don’t have parties or even like a lot of fanfare. What I do enjoy is going outside the norm or what is expected of me; to be overindulgent, spiteful of the status quo and its boring rules. (It’s similar to how I always wear shoes around my apartment, which is probably due to the many times my mother told me not to wear them in the house.)
The other week my best friend called me. She asked what I’ll be doing for my birthday and if I’ll have spaghetti for breakfast. I laughed! I’d forgotten that a few years ago, I woke up at 9:00 am on a Sunday morning (my birthday), wanting spaghetti. I thought, “Why the hell not? It’s my birthday and I’ll damn well do what I want!” It was good.
So, this Saturday I have to decide how I will celebrate my birthday. Will I eat a box of donuts or an entire cake? Have a glass of wine for every year I’ve been alive? Perhaps I’ll go over Niagara Falls in a barrel! Who knows?
Whatever I do, my birthday will be enjoyed—it always is.
