So, you see, Santa…

It’s so hard to believe that the holidays are only weeks away!

I am someone who always tries to remain positive at all times. However, during the December holidays, this can be a little more challenging. The stress of organizing, preparing, budgeting, and traveling can be quite stressful. This is especially stressful, when everyone else is doing so at the same time.

Don’t get me wrong, I do love the holidays. I love the idea of having a little time off, only to share it with family and friends. Nothing else. Just that.

This year, Iain and I will be traveling to my hometown for the holidays. This will be a nice treat since I haven’t been home to celebrate the holidays with my family in 2 years. While we’re in Charlottetown, our intention is to first, take it easy; to let all the struggles of 2009 slip away. Then I’d like for us to hang out with my Mom, sister and nieces and nephews. I’d also like to hangout with good friends, drink lots of egg nog, go to our favorite pubs, eat at our favorite Chinese restaurant, etc. etc. etc. Then, do it all over again with our friends and family in Halifax!

And, along with all that, I would just like for us to have a safe trip and for everyone to be happy and healthy.

This goes for all of you, as well. Have a safe, happy and healthy holiday!

The Art of Being Positive

Posted by admin on Jun 13, 2009 in Health, design, illustration

I am the world’s worst dancer, but it’s fun to do and not only can it lift your spirits—but if you can concoct a crazy enough dance—it will also lift the spirit of others!

This may totally disgust you, but I am a very positive person. I can’t help it. I mean, I’m not bouncing off walls or anything. I just have a clear and positive perspective on life. And, as a result I’m leading a very happy existence!

My mother has always said to me, “Melinda, you look at the world through rose colored glasses.” What’s wrong with that? I ask. It’s these rose colored glasses that have made my world a better one.

Nothing good comes from negativity. Only stress and poor health. I realized this in my early 20’s. After having a really bad day, where everything seemed to go wrong at every turn, I said, “enough!” I vowed never to have another bad day again. And, as impossible as that is, they’ve certainly decreased.

I have those days where I just can’t seem to locate my motivation and sometimes, days upon days of rain will really creep into my psyche, but one thing is for sure: Everyday is a new day. Everyday brings possibility and uncertainty. Anything is possible, and at the same time, you just can’t predict what the day will bring. So, it’s important to make it count!

I’ve been scrutinized over the years for my positive outlook. Mostly by nay-sayers who don’t believe in the art of being positive. These people also suffer endlessly in their own misery and have never given positive thinking a second thought.

When things are bleak, you have to have faith that things will work out, because they will! I’ve had my fair share of set backs and bad days, but if those things are dwelled upon, they’ll only get worse.

Two things I consider really bad: Death and jail. If you can avoid those, you’re on easy street!

My husband as seen the light. Since we met in 2005, he’s become increasingly positive and has fewer bad days. It’s not only the act of being positive, it’s understanding why it works. He’ll be the first to tell you that positive thinking is contagious!

Recommended listening to brighten your day: Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, The Kinks, Billy Preston.
